Seen here as it arrived, flat tires, wheels missing, literally hauled in from the junkyard –

 

It is said that once you own a Volkswagen it’s always in your blood.  So, It is with no surprise that this one was created from  one – they are relatively easy to work on and maintain, and since they break down often, it’s convenient that they are inexpensive to repair.  My donor vehicle had to be a Volkswagen in one form or another.  Thus, the Vanagon.

 Re-constructed from the ground up with 1-inch tubing,

all that is left of the original van is the running gear.

With the addition of sheet metal, seats, and fuel tank (note the water tower), the body begins to take shape
